Trad / Folk Sessions in the Southampton(ish) region

Shantyhead have been searching for some time for a good folk session to pop along to, drink a few beers and listen to some people playing good folk because they want to, rather than because the landlord is paying them.

On a visit to the Four Horseshoes, Nursling, one Tuesday night when half of the band were otherwise engaged, Col and Frank from everyone's favourite band chatted with some of the session regulars and came up with the following list.

NOTE: THIS LIST DOES NOT CONSTITUTE SHANTYHEAD GIGS, OR SESSIONS AT WHICH THEY MAY BE PLAYING, RATHER GIVES THE DETAILS OF FOLK-BASED SESSIONS IN THE SOUTH HAMPSHIRE AREA.

It's up to you to check with the establishment as to whether there's a session happening. This is only provided as a guide, not a guarantee.

Monday

Alternate Mondays, 2nd and 4th of the month

The Gamekeeper, Woodlands, Ashurst

This isn't a pub any of the Shantyhead team have visited lately, so the link is only correct in theory.
Please let us know if we're talking a load of bollocks and this isn't the right pub!

Every Tuesday, Shantyhead Approved!!

Wednesday
The Star, Romsey

Thursday
The Cuckoo, Hamptworth
We'll let you find this gem of a pub if you must!
STOP PRESS: The Cuckoo has recently changed hands. I haven't had confirmation as to whether or not they are holding sessions. When I find out, I'll update this page.

The Bent Brief, Lodge Road, Southampton
This rough round the edges popular local boozer has a folk session on the last Thursday of every month. And an adjacent Tesco petrol station. Drive through the forecourt to find parking at the rear of the pub.
STOP PRESS: The Bent Brief is now closed. If I hear it has reopened and is holding sessions again, I'll update this page.

Friday
Fo'c'sle Folk Club
Meet in the back room of the Richmond Inn, Portswood, Southampton. Fees may be charged - see website. Sessions are part of the programme - check the website to see if it's a session or a proper gig that evening...
